Annually, millions of tons of plastic contaminate both the Earth and its oceans!

Yes! The Plastic Waste Problem is Serious!

According to Environment and Climate Change of Canada, over 3 million tons of plastic waste are thrown away annually. The vast majority ends up in landfills and about 29,000 tons find their way into our natural environment. Only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. 12% is incinerated. The remaining 79% is dumped in landfills and natural environments. Moreover, millions tons of plastic reach the oceans through rivers annually. A part of this plastic makes its way to ocean garbage patches, where it is entangled with plastic from other sources (such as offshore fishing operations) in a vortex of circulating currents. Plastic will have a growing negative impact on our environment, health, and economies if we do not decrease our waste production.
