Audio Metaphor is a pipeline of computational tools for generating artificial soundscapes. The pipeline includes modules for audio file search, segmentation and classification, and mixing. The input for the pipeline is a sentence, a desired duration, and curves for pleasantness and eventfulness. Each module can be used independently, or in unison to generate soundscape from a sentence.
Aeon is an audio visual duet with Miles Thorogood (percussion and electronics) and Aleksandra Dulic (live animation). An Aeon performance enables generative animation, editing and compositing, for improvisational expression of projected visual elements and spatialized audio.
Sound design plays a critical role in enhancing the impact of audio content for video games and immersive environments. The subjective nature of sound perception and aesthetics makes it challenging to define the key features for advancing the development of techniques and tools for analyzing, searching, and organizing sound design signals. To address this issue, we conducted a survey of sound design practitioners to identify the most relevant high-level descriptors (HLDs) that define audio aesthetics. The results of this study provide valuable insights into the most important HLDs for various sound design analysis and modeling tasks toward developing computational assistive technologies for sound design.
Playbook is an interactive, immersive experiment with improvised sound and text. The performance is structured to involve audience input: 4 sets of vintage encyclopedias are distributed around the room and spectators are invited to look through the books, select a short piece, and bring it to the reader. The text is then deconstructed and incorporated into the sonic material produced by the musicians, to create a web of sounds, words and rhythms played through an 8-channel immersive sound system.
